Ontario Provincial Park Malaise Program

Project Overview

Title: Ontario Provincial Park Malaise Program
CBG Units: Collections, Genomics, Informatics
Scope: Examine the diversity of arthropod species in Ontario Provincial Parks with the goal of providing the baseline data needed to track long-term shifts in species composition
Sampling Duration: 2014
Sequencing Analysis: 2017-2018
Stage: Largely Complete
Reach: 51 Ontario Provincial Parks
Sequences: 1M+ specimens; 23K+ BINs

Project Details

The Ontario Provincial Parks Malaise Program, a collaboration between the Centre for Biodiversity Genomics (CBG) and Ontario Parks and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, involves the trapping of arthropods in Ontario Provincial Parks to determine species diversity using DNA barcoding. The program has sampled 51 provincial parks in 2014. Analysis of 45 provincial parks was completed by Fall 2017.
